Snow, Data

February 28th, 2005

Today I installed a wireless network router. I bought it for my apartment, but I’m still waiting forLinksys_wireless_router_1 broadband service to be hooked up there (I finally called Comcast over the weekend; maybe I’ll be surfing there by next week). In the meantime, since there’s no network to be routed in my apartment, wirelessly or otherwise, I connected the router that I bought for my apartment to the computer of my x-wife.

That allowed both Maggie and I (and later may allow both Helen and I) to access the internet at the same time.

Maggie, Helen and I were together today because it’s another
"snow day."

The University of Maryland closed today because of winter
weather, just as it was Thursday of last week.

Helen’s school–the
Center for Young Children, which is on the University of Maryland
campus–is also closed today. In fact, they close whenever the public schools
in Prince George’s County close, which means each winter they close
more often than the Univ. of Maryland. This creates childcare difficulties for parents, most of whom work for UMD.

The World Bank, where Helen’s mom works, was not closed today. It had a liberal leave policy in effect, but as a "temporary" worker Helen’s mom doesn’t benefit from that plan.

As the parent with the more flexible schedule, I am by default Helen’s fallback childcare provider.
So I was with Helen all day.
