Its available for pretty much everything. Linux is an excellent OS however it isn't necessarily for the faint of heart. It doesn't always have support for everything and drivers can be hard to find. Having said that I've used it as a desktop and server OS for quite a few years. Check out linux-laptop.net for other users experiences of installing Linux on laptops. Its quite comprehensive.
